Recently, Flying Solo interviewed Perth Settlement Agent Kylie Dillon about her unique path into business and her stories along the way to now run her own successful Perth’s Settlement Agency businesses.

When did you know you wanted to start your own business?
The day I started my first job. I knew at that very moment I never wanted to experience that feeling again … and I did three more times after that!
What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt this year?
Two things:
- The ability to change your life rests entirely with you.
Your past does not have to define your future.
What’s your proudest moment?
Definitely when I received my first message from a stranger (via Facebook) thanking me for being her inspiration. I found it an incredibly humbling experience to know I was a positive influence on someone. I was proud of the person I was becoming.
What’s your number one way to wind down?
Cooking dinner, with a wine in hand and hearing all about my family’s day. It’s how I relax and is usually the perfect end to a crazy, busy day.
What’s the smartest bit of marketing you’ve ever done?
When I was walking through the streets of New York at Christmas time in 2012 I realised there was nothing to be gained by playing it small. If I wanted to grow my business (I only had KDD at that time) the smartest marketing I could use was my voice. So, I did. With that came personal growth also.
What or who has the most grounding influence on you?
Without a doubt, my family. When I’m with them I’m a wife and a mum and the chaos of my day subsides. They are the reason I do what I do every day. I often say I will never balance home and work life perfectly but I give 100% to everything I do. And after them, my business coach. He had enough faith in me for both of us! He taught me how to turn my dreams into goals, my goals into plans … all the while keeping my feet planted firmly on the ground.
